This means we source vintage jewelry (mostly beaded and freshwater pearl pieces). Take them apart. To be reimagined into fresh contemporary designs. By hand.

It doesn’t sound very efficient, does it?

It isn’t. This is a passion project. A celebration of art, culture, style and sustainability.

This is slow fashion.

How it started

UGOIGO Founder Sarah Carter is a long-time artist, with over fifteen years of experience working in marketing roles in Toronto.

Sarah was struggling with postpartum anxiety back in 2020 and discovered that beading created a sense of calm and joy during even the most difficult of days. 

That summer, Sarah read Kelly Small's book The Conscious Creative and immediately began working with upcycled materials. 

In the fall of 2020, Sarah's friend and corporate lawyer Mimi Palmer joined up as a brand ambassador, helping UGOIGO to scale.
